So, there's just so much to say about this album, I don't know where to start. 2020 has been a crazy year for obvious reasons, but as we reach the end of it, I've found that my life has completely turned around and I've had some incredible experiences this year, with the future looking bright too. This EP came about due to several different reasons.
Firstly, I had so many ideas for music and songs when I returned from Europe in September that all I could think about was writing and recording again.
Secondly, I wanted to make use of all instruments and technology available to me to create something bigger and more exciting than my previous writings.
And finally, I didn't have long before leaving the UK again to move to Vietnam so enjoyed the challenge of writing, recording and releasing some new material within that short time (quite clearly, I failed this, but purposefully so I could have something to keep me occupied during my quarantine in Vietnam).
As this album progressed, it almost accidently became a story inspired by the last year and a half, so I want to write a bit about each of the songs, though it should be stated that I don't write about specific things which have happened, the songs only take inspiration from real life
1) The guitar parts were recorded on a train (I can't remember where to) which was empty, while all the other sound effects were recorded while travelling around the UK, Poland and en route to Vietnam.
2) The story of this song was inspired by the position I was in a year and a half ago, as I was not in a good place mentally, and felt like I was spiralling. This was the hardest song to write as I had to take inspiration from a place I don't want to be in ever again.
3) This has multiple sources - getting away and breaking the cycle to help my mental state by moving to Manchester, my friend leaving the country to work abroad, and deciding to move to the boat, Long Cool Girl, when it seemed clear that COVID-19 would eventually lock down the country as staying in the city seemed like an awful idea when I could be somewhere away from lots of people and with the ability to still be able to enjoy the outdoors.
4) Though written as a love song, this was actually inspired by all the people I met in Poland - we were all travelling separately so were all leaving at different times, and because I met some of the best people it was always sad to say goodbye, which gave the basis for this song
5) This instrumental was genuinely written while on the bus out of Krakow, so what else could I call this? The second part is named after lyrics in the next song as that serves as a link or intro to 'I'm Not Coming Home'.
6) At the time of writing this song I was preparing to leave the country to move to Vietnam, and is a reflection of my positivity for the future in contrast to how I was a year and a half ago, as well as my excitement to move to somewhere new.
This is for all my friends and family for your continued support and to everyone I've met this year for making it so special.
